Payments Canada’s response to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s consultation on transfers for processing
Payments Canada has responded to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s transfers for processing consultation paper. The consultation invited stakeholder views on both current and future law with respect to privacy protection in the context of transfers for processing, including cross border transfers.
In its response, Payments Canada details its concerns to OPC’s proposed policy position, noting the significant impacts on the payments industry that the proposed changes could have, including adding significant and unnecessary complications.
Payments Canada is pleased to be part of the OPC’s review of transfers under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Maintaining trust and confidence in Canada’s payment systems is of paramount importance to Payments Canada and its member financial institutions. This response is especially timely as the Modernization initiative, which will help drive payments innovation and competition in a safe, secure and sound environment, advances.
