Payments Canada welcomes new member to its Board of Directors

Payments Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Grant MacKenzie, President and CEO at Peoples Group, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Mr. MacKenzie brings a deep understanding of the payment industry and extensive experience in board governance that will serve Payments Canada and the Board of Directors well during his term.

In addition to Mr. MacKenzie’s appointment, Board Chair Garry Foster and Directors John Sheridan (Independent director) and Robert Paterson (Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank) have been renewed for three-year terms. 

Payments Canada is grateful to outgoing director Susan Hawkins (The Toronto-Dominion Bank) for her outstanding contributions throughout her term.

The Payments Canada Board of Directors plays a pivotal role in governing and managing the affairs of Payments Canada with a focus on strategic and policy matters. As set out in the Canadian Payments Act, the board is composed of a majority of independent directors, augmented with financial institution member representatives who are experts in the payment industry.

As Payments Canada looks to the future, it continues collaborating with its new and returning board members, advisory councils, and regulators to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of the evolving payment landscape.
