Payments Canada welcomes four new members to its Stakeholder Advisory Council

Every April, Payments Canada welcomes new representatives to its Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC). These appointees bring fresh outlooks, varied experiences and new ideas from across the Canadian payment ecosystem. SAC council members’ input can play a pivotal role in what the future of payments in Canada looks like.

Our new appointees will bring diverse perspectives to SAC because they come from different corners of the industry: fintech, transportation, consumer, small business and retail. This gives all interested parties across the industry a seat around the table. The retail space, in particular, is vital especially while Canada continues to emerge from the pandemic and consumer demands shift.

Payments Canada understands the importance of diversity in SAC membership that extends beyond corporate scope. The council that is diverse in age, gender, skills and culture better represents the composition of Canada’s payment ecosystem and offers a robust 360-degree view that takes all stakeholders’ interest into consideration. This year’s SAC appointees reflect this.

New members*:

• Alvin Chan, Director, Payments Innovation, Digital & Innovation - Cadillac Fairview
• Layial El-Hadi, Executive Director - Fintech Cadence
• Daniela Aubry, Deputy Chief Payments Officer, Head of Client & Customer - Metrolinx
• Grace Jung, Head of Industry Relations, Payments, Operations - Square

Cadillac Fairview is particularly focused on digital innovation and providing all of its merchants with an idyllic payment experience. Alvin Chan brings significant financial industry experience, having introduced Visa Debit to the Canadian marketplace.

Fintech Cadence, based out of Quebec, brings first-hand insights into what fintech companies face in terms of access to banking and payment services. Layial El-Hadi is well recognized throughout the payment ecosystem due to her vast experience.

Having Metrolinx on SAC provides public transportation industry representation. In addition, Daniela Aubry co-chaired the Real-Time Rail Management Committee for a number of years, and within her role at Metrolinx, is responsible for customer experience and digital channels.

Square’s prominence in the retail space makes it an ideal organization to have representation on SAC. Grace Jung is a well-regarded and known thought leader in payments. Her rich understanding of Payments Canada and the payment landscape will be welcome on SAC.

This reputable group of companies and individuals join our returning SAC representatives.

Payments Canada would like to thank its outgoing council members for their many contributions. We would also like to thank the large number of applicants this year. It was a very competitive application process and we appreciate those that missed out for their interest and time.

The Stakeholder Advisory Council debates and delivers insight to Payments Canada’s management team and board of directors on key elements of the future of payments.
