Payments Canada announces new Senior Director, Payment Systems Operations

Payments Canada is pleased to announce the promotion of Derek Young to Senior Director, Payment Systems Operations.

Derek Young has been with Payments Canada for close to 24 years, taking on progressive leadership roles during his tenure. He began his Payments Canada career in business operations, leading the day-to-day operations of LVTS and ACSS. Since then, he has led many large-scale business and technical initiatives for the organization. For the last four years, Derek has been the Director of the Retail Payments Products team, leading the Business Operations and Technical Operations teams. Prior to this, Derek was the business architect for Modernization, authoring the Modernization Target State, along with developing the initial business requirements and design for Lynx. Derek has led industry forums and is the current chair of the Senior Operational Committee. 

Derek brings in-depth knowledge of Payments Canada’s payment systems, legal framework, technology operations, and the broader payments ecosystem. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, Derek will oversee the teams responsible for the operational excellence of Canada’s payment infrastructure, and work with member financial institutions to develop, maintain, and enhance the business processes supporting the operations of the national clearing and settlement systems. As a senior director, Derek will be part of Payments Canada’s Operational Leadership Team.
