Payments Canada announces new board members

Payments Canada is pleased to announce three new directors and one returning director to its board of directors. With the introduction of new technologies, the presence of new participants in the market and evolving end user expectations, there has been unprecedented change in payments. Payments Canada's Board of Directors support the organization in navigating through these changes by bringing diverse viewpoints and different business and entrepreneurial skill sets to the table.

Newly elected financial institution members are Susan Hawkins of TD Bank, who brings deep experience in modern payments, and Rob Paterson, of CS Alterna Bank, whose proficiency in emerging payment and mobile technology, and mentorship in the fintech space brings additional insight for the board. John Sheridan, who joins as an independent director, brings extensive operating knowledge and broad corporate governance know-how. Returning independent director Garry Foster continues to provide expertise in board governance and in facilitating the transformation of complex businesses.

Payments Canada thanks outgoing directors Doug Steiner (independent), Francois Desjardins of B2B Bank and Ramesh Siromani of RBC for their many contributions.

These positions took effect on June 18, 2020 after the annual election. Payments Canada looks forward to working with its new and returning board of directors, along with the members of the advisory councils and its regulators, to ensure Payments Canada and the Modernization program are well positioned for the future.
