Become a member of our Stakeholder Advisory Council. Help shape the future of payments in Canada
Payments Canada is now accepting nominations for membership to the 2025 Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC). The nomination deadline is December 11, 2024.
The council provides advice to our board of directors on payment, clearing and settlement matters helping us make informed decisions on ongoing operations, policies and initiatives. The council also offers an opportunity to contribute directly to shaping the future of payments in Canada by providing input on proposed initiatives that are designed to meet the evolving needs of the payment ecosystem.
2025 nominations will be effective April 1, 2025. Terms run for three years.
Stakeholder Advisory Council members:
- contribute to payment progress that benefits all Canadians by sharing your skills and experience
- collaborate with other stakeholders in the payment ecosystem (consumers, retail, government, treasury and service providers)
- serve as an ambassador to share information and promote ideas within the payment ecosystem
- participate in meetings and working groups
- expand your personal network of contacts by working with other leaders who share your commitment to excellence in payments and
- act in compliance with Payments Canada’s by-laws
Who is a Payments Canada stakeholder?
Our Stakeholder Advisory Council encompasses the views of Payments Canada’s broad and diverse stakeholder base, including consumers, retailers, large corporates, small and medium enterprises, vendors, payment service providers, government and educational institutions, fintechs and new entrants. The council believes that diversity fosters excellence in governance and aims to reflect a broad diversity of experiences and perspectives.

How to submit a nomination
When nominating a representative, Payments Canada encourages stakeholder organizations to review the eligibility* guidelines and take into account the diversity of their membership, including regional representation, and representatives who have current responsibilities for — or direct experience in — payment-related matters or financial operations.
To submit nominations for the council please complete the online nomination form or download and submit the completed form to councils@payments.ca. The Board of Directors, in consultation with the Minister of Finance, will make appointments to the council based on criteria outlined in By-law No. 1 (10).
FAQs
Can I nominate myself?
Yes, self nominations are encouraged.
What are the specific time requirements per year?
- Attend four to six meetings per year
- Devote approximately 10 hours per quarter to fulfill your role and responsibilities in support of the activities and work efforts of the council without remuneration
Can I appoint a designate to attend meetings in my stead?
SAC members must attend meetings on a best effort basis when possible.
Nominations must be received by December 11, 2024.
Nominees will be informed of the decision by April 1, 2025.
*NOTE: Individuals or organizations who are identified as having a conflict of interest will be considered ineligible for appointment to SAC.
