Leveraging APIs: beta launch of API developer portal

Building on it’s earlier pilot project, Payments Canada is pleased to announce the beta launch of its application programming interface (API) developer portal, and the availability of its first APIs. 

The portal provides access to Payments Canada sandbox APIs, allowing developers the ability to explore API functionality using test data. Currently, Financial Institution File (FIF) APIs are available on the portal with corporate creditor identification number (CCIN) APIs scheduled for release later on this year. Any developer can register and use the developer portal sandbox environment. For designated authorized users, access will be given to production APIs that provide live information. 

APIs are the fastest growing, business-influencing technology in the IT industry today, as they enable new digital products and business models for services and create new business channels. API technology will make it faster and easier to access the data and functionality of certain Payments Canada services in a more convenient, safe and reliable environment. 

The launch of the developer portal supports Payments Canada’s efforts to modernize its products and services in tandem with industry developments and evolving market needs.
