The future of payments has arrived at The 2021 SUMMIT
Tracey Black, President & CEO of Payments Canada, welcomed over 2,000 delegates from across the payments ecosystem to day one of The 2021 SUMMIT.
Touching on the past twelve exceptional months for the payments industry, Tracey acknowledged the challenges and opportunities experienced by Payments Canada, its members and the ecosystem, and recognized the accelerated pace of change driven by the pandemic.
These themes were explored further in the following interview of Tracey and Rania Llewellyn, President & CEO, Laurentian Bank of Canada, by James Bradshaw of The Globe and Mail. The interview followed their experiences as two prominent female leaders in Canada’s financial industry, covering topics from employee mental health in a remote environment to hiring practices for a more inclusive and diverse workforce to the future of payments. Mastercard’s Paul Stoddart provided a keynote address on the future of payments and why real-time payments will be a game-changer for Canadians and the industry.
The themes from day one sessions revolved around the speed of innovation in the payments industry, leveraging new technology to fight financial and cybercrime, the opportunities in diversity and inclusion, and the importance of a more inclusive payments environment.
Eileen Mercier, the Chair of Payments Canada’s Board of Directors, will provide closing remarks on day five. Ms. Mercier will be ending her six-year tenure as chair at the end of June and her closing remarks will reflect on the massive change in payments over her tenure and what the next chapter of payments has to offer Canada.
