On the final day of The 2022 SUMMIT payment leaders rally behind a common goal — to make payments easier, smarter and faster for Canadians
Canada’s premier payment event closes with an eye on the future.
The Payments Canada SUMMIT went virtual for the second year in a row and more than 1,800 delegates participated in three days of programming. Featuring over 200 speakers and 90 sessions across six different content themes, the event covered a wide range of topics central to the evolution of payments in Canada and around the world including open banking, digital ID, real-time payments, ISO 20022, cyber security, industry trends and research, and much more.
This year we welcomed a high-calibre roster of new speakers to The SUMMIT including Abraham Tachjian, Canada's newly appointed open banking lead, David Pitt, CEO of Pay.UK, Sasha Krstic, President of Mastercard Canada, Fatema Pirone, VP, Enterprise Digital at CIBC and Keith Martell President and CEO of First Nations Bank of Canada.
The event closed with remarks from Garry Foster, the Chair of Payments Canada’s Board of Directors. He spoke to some of the themes explored over the last three days and noted that resilience and flexibility are fundamental to the work being done to bring modern payment options to life for Canadians.
Garry Foster also called on the payment community to reflect on what they’ve learned, where we can go in the future and how we can work together in the pursuit of a shared objective: “I feel confident in saying we are coming away from The SUMMIT with a common goal: We all want payments to be easier, smarter and faster for Canada and we are working together to attain that goal.” View Garry Foster’s closing remarks.
The success of this year’s event would not have been possible without the support and engagement of the entire payment ecosystem, which united in the virtual environment to keep the discussions on payment innovation alive.
